Position Purpose
The primary purpose of the Fleet Engineer position is to direct and manage the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of assigned tug, barge, and ship assets. The role is the direct point of contact for shipboard engineers to shoreside management and maintains consistent communications on maintenance, supply, and regulatory issues. Fleet engineers act as Project Managers for all dockside and dry dock projects to include planning, execution, and closeout.

Responsibilities
Manage vendor and contractor work by identifying best provider, negotiating terms, arranging attendance, tracking work progress, and closeout through billing.
Continuously liaison with Chief and Assistant Engineers aboard to ensure vessel maintenance is being carried out, parts and supplies are on hand, and ensure efficient operations.
Provide troubleshooting support during machinery casualties
Track all regulatory inspections and certifications and ensure timely and effective completion.
Develop maintenance and repair work scope specifications to include estimating of cost and time.
Act as onsite project manager for all dockside and drydock repair periods to include being liaison with regulatory agencies.
Track and report on project progress, budget, milestones, and challenges
Attend vessels regularly during operational periods and during machinery casualty events
Provide on hands assistance for repairs and maintenance as required
Act as quality control for all repairs and maintenance and ensure same are completed to regulatory standards
Push continual improvement of preventative maintenance activities utilizing CMMS program
Represent the companys culture of safety, efficiency, and communication by conspicuously adhering to all policies and procedures

Education
Bachelors Degree in Marine Engineering or related field, OR
7+ years of experience in an engineering related field with marine industry exposure

Competencies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products to include Word, Excel, and Project
Able to mentor and coach vessel crew
Proficiency with managing and prioritizing multiple assignments and tasks
Willing to spend extended periods on location for repair and refurbishment projects

Other Desired Qualifications
Experience with ATB operations and equipment
Direct knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operation of marine engineering equipment, in particular EMD Propulsion Engines and shipboard electrical generation and distribution
Experience with planned preventative maintenance processes
